Lisa Calderon, wife of former State Assemblyman Charles Calderon, sister-in-law to convicted felons and former State Assemblyman Tom and State Senator Ron Calderon, and mother to current State Assemblyman Ian Calderon, who is not seeking reelection, is hoping to keep the family tradition alive. Well for the residents of Whittier, Norwalk, Santa Fe Springs, South El Monte, La Mirada and La Puente there seems to be only two candidates running for this open seat – an individual trying to maintain power for a tainted longstanding political family dynasty and another trying to create and complete a new political family dynasty. Garcia knows the council district well and would be a fierce advocate on the city council for residents, the homeless, the business community and a fighter against the status quo.įor these reasons we encourage voters to choose Monica Garcia for the Los Angeles City Council, District 14 on Tuesday, March 3. She is the first Latina to serve on the LAUSD board and was selected by fellow board members to serve an historic six years as president.ĭe Leon is known as a champion of environmental issues, whereas Garcia has a record of passing bonds and utilizing the funds to renovate and build new schools. Garcia is a long serving member of the LAUSD board with a mixed record of successes and failures. Rumors abound as to his motives to run for the seat including using it as a possible steppingstone to enter into the race for L.A. With Jose Huizar leaving office after a tumultuous end to his tenure, two big names rose to succeed Huizar and serve on the LA City Council’s 14th District seat. Christina Duran for the Los Angeles Unified School Board, District 5 on Tuesday, March 3. Duran ideal to serve the interests of parents and students in District 5. Duran’s background of serving in the classroom, training other educators and administrators on best practices and her knowledge and experience in fiscal auditing makes Dr. Duran has run a grassroots campaign against an empire of interest groups supporting her opponent.ĭr. Christina Duran, an energetic, focused and life-long educator whose focus is making the needs of students a priority. Goldberg does not accurately represent the interests of District 5 and that her leapfrogging from one political position to another has grown tiresome in both her ability to think creatively on issues that have plagued LAUSD since she first occupied a seat on the board more than 20 years ago. In this race Jackie Goldberg, who served on LA Unified School Board back in 1983 then returned two years ago after stints on the LA City Council and State Assembly, has no new ideas for the beleaguered district and is the chosen asset of the teacher’s union.
